Tax Information Number (TIN) is introduced by Income Tax Department of India to change the current system of direct taxes using Information Technology. It involves collection, processing, monitoring and accounting of direct taxes. It is a revolutionary step across the country. It is a unique 11 digit registration number for identification of dealers registered under VAT.
Eligibility for TIN Number
Manufacturers, Traders, Exporters and Dealers should register themselves for TIN number. A new TIN will be allocated under registration, when new registration is undertaken under VAT or central sales taxes. This TIN number is mandatory to appear on all Quotations, Orders and Invoices by both Sending Company and Receiving Company.
Procedure for TIN Application
Here are two methods to apply for TIN number:
- The first method is to Apply online and fill the form.
- And the second method,the applicant can visit any of the concrened Government authoritires across the country and submit the form.
Documents required at the time of Application
- ID Proof
- Address proof
- PAN card of proprietor
- Six photographs
- Address proof of Business premises
- 1st Sale / Purchase Invoice
- Copy of LR/GR & payment/collection proof with bank statement
These documentations procedure may vary from state to state. Once the documents are scruntizied and verified, a unique TIN number is provided to applicant. The Central Sales Tax number can be changed to TIN number on request by the tax department if the the applicants have existed Central Sales Tax number
