We understand that you need to restore the backup of your company file in QuickBooks desktop and need guidance with that.

Not to worry, here we present a set of steps which you can perform to fetch the backup file.

  • In your QuickBooks desktop click on the File
  • Then scroll to -> Open or Restore Company.
  • Further select -> Restore a backup copy
  • Then -> Next
  • Now select -> Local Backup
  • Then -> Next
  • This will enable you to choose the location of your backup file from the Look In drop-down’
  • Choose the backup file from the folder. The extension of the file would be .qbb.
  • Click -> Open
  • Then -> Next
  • Now you will be able to choose a location where you want to save this backup file. This will be at Save In drop down.
  • Type a desired name of the file in File Name
  • Then -> Save.


You may get a pop up before the file starts to restore, kindly proceed accordingly.

If it gives you a pop that means either the file name already exists and you wish to replace it or do you agree with overwriting an existing company files then go with the option -> No.

If clicked on Yes, the existing file will be replaced by the restored file. Please select it only when you are sure that the restored file has all the required information and is properly working. The restored file can later be saved as original by renaming it to the original file name.
